Tuesday/Thursday Noon Fundamentals Class at GBSC!

OK, so you think that the Fundamentals class is just for white belts…tell that to the 12 blue belts in class with me last Thursday!  It’s so funny because when I’m not teaching, I try to take the Fundamentals classes because they really help my game. I not only learn little details about things I thought I knew, but I get to train with some really cool people!

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of training with some of the best at our school. Twelve blue belts came in to take the class and it is so much fun. To teach is to learn. That is what Professor Flavio says and I agree with him 100%!  I learn so much from these guys and girls…it is amazing! The moves they teach me and the “wisdom” I learn from them is unbelievable! I feel so privileged just being in the same room as these guys and girls, yet alone on the same mats.

Having two blue belt girls (Deb and Cathy) training in class is so much fun. If you don’t think you can learn from a girl, let me tell you something (laughing out loud)…have them put their shoulder pressure on you and I’m sure you will say, “How are you applying so much pressure on me?” Having guys like John Murdock get on top is not fun at all, but learning from all of these students will only make you better.

Thank you guys, so much, for everything you do, not only for the school, but for my own personal growth.  If you’re thinking about coming to the noon classes and want a really good work out, stop on by. You only need to be a white belt and above who wants to have lots of fun with amazing people! Ohhh and you must be at least 35 years old…LOL…Sorry guys – had to throw that in! Love all of you guys and see you on the mats every Tuesday / Thursday!

Today we had our Competition Team Training as we get ready for the upcoming Gracie Barra Tournament on May 8th.

Prof. Flavio and Prof. Ana Laura talked about tournament strategies. How to set up grips, when to exicute a throw, and counter a takedown.

We also went into detail about the point system and how to develop your strategy for a tournament.

2 Year Anniversary Party at Caliente Cantina!

As over 100 GB students and family members gathered at Caliente Cantina (and filled both the inside and the outside of the restaurant), to celebrate GBSC’s 2 Year Anniversary, the mood was high and the energy was great!

The party commenced with a BIG TAP OUT for Professor Flavio’s brother, Ricardo Almeida during the UFC Fight 111 last Saturday night! Professor Flavio watched his brother fight with his head in his hands, standing up in his chair, while our GB Family members pointed fingers, cheered, and yelled in the audience! It was so exciting watching Ricardo submit Matt Brown with a rear naked choke in the 2nd round of the fight!

But the fun didn’t stop there! There were giveaways of shirts and hats, great food, friendship, and once again, lots of laughter and fun. We are so fortunate to be a part of such a great group of people and we thank you so much for being a part of our very special day and night!

We love our GB Family and thank all of you for your continued support and for enjoying our 2 Year Celebration with us! Without you, there would be no celebration!

See you on the mats!!

Pictures from the GBSC/GBDP Soccer Cup!

Thanks to everyone who came out for the GBSC/GBDP Soccer Cup game last Saturday!  What a fun game it was! The day was hot and sunny and the teams were, once again, competitive, with a lot of “in your face” talking and laughing going on.

It’s so great to see how our GB family comes together on days like these and the soccer game was no exception. All students: men, women and children played together and worked together and showed what GB is all about: friendship, great sportsmanship, good character, fun, play, skill and competitiveness…and of course, lots of good times and laughter.

Here are some pictures from the day (click on the pictures to see them full size!):

We thank all of our students, big and small, for supporting our school and being a part of our lives. We are very appreciative for each and every one of you!

Cheers!
