Summer Schedule: Lunch Time Classes

Our summer schedule will add two more Fundamentals Classes to our schedule. Every Tuesdays and Thursdays students can enjoy a BJJ Lunch Break and come train between 12.00p and 1.00p. This class will also have a extra 30 minutes sparring session from 1.00p to 1.30p.

Why do we call it all levels? Because of the 30 minutes sparring session and also because it brings students from all levels together. Not just beginners!

Cheers!

GB Rio de Janeiro’s Head Instructor wins Brazilian Nationals 2009

2003’s heavyweight champion, Jefferson Moura showed how he continues to keep his technique up to date at the Brazilian Championship, held last Sunday, in Rio de Janeiro. After four matches, one being the final against Alexandre Ceconi, Jefferson yet again stood at the highest spot on the winners’ podium at a big Jiu-Jitsu event.

“Truth is, it’s been a while I haven’t competed in a big championship. I fought at the Brazilian Team Nationals, but that competition doesn’t depend on just your result. Last time I competed individually was a match-up against Robert Drysdale, two years ago. I was working on my career as a Physical Education teacher, but I now I’m back at full force because Carlinhos Gracie called on me to teach class. I’ve been working at Gracie Barra now for six months and I had to show it here, in competition, so everyone can see how it’s been. I came to test myself, because these kids are a force to be reckoned with, they’re really tough, and thank God I left satisfied,” said the black belt, still in the Tijuca Tennis Club.

On the work underway at Gracie Barra headquarters, Jefferson believes soon new talent will appear on the scene.

“We innovated, organized times and a class program, applying to everything from discipline to technical training. Everything is standardized and it’s a process Gracie Barra has applied all over the world. The result has been really great, such that in six months we’ve seen a great increase in the number of students in the academy. I’ve been backed up by Marcio Feitosa, Piu Piu, Flavio Cachorrinho and, of course, Maste Carlos Gracie Jr. We analyzed what works. I entered this championship for everyone to see that we’re on top of everything and to show that, soon, we will be dominating all the categories.

Jefferson doesn’t know to what point he will keep up his competition rhythm, as work for the team has been arduous. But the Worlds, to take place in June, in California, is in his sights.

“The idea is to head to the Worlds, but not continue competing for long. You’re either a competitor or you run Gracie Barra. The team today is really big, there’s a lot of stuff to deal with. I have to deal with several things and the priority is to focus on the administrative part to expand the project more and more,” he said in finishing.

Attention GB Parents…

GB Future Champions Program, Summer Schedule, Team A and Team B.

Dear GB Parents,

Gracie Barra Association has recently launched its official GB Future Champions Program. One year of discussion, experimentation, and the contribution of more then twenty black belts were encapsulated in a set of best practices to teach brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to students under 16 years old.

The new program brings even more excitement and challenges to our future champions by combining effective self-defense techniques with a variety of games and drills. The goal of each class continues to be supporting the development of each student’s character so they can become black belts on and off the mats.

The GB Future Champions Program is very similar to what we already have on our school. It will be implemented together with our summer schedule that offers four more classes to accommodate the growth of our school.

Starting June 1st, all kids must opt to attend classes either Mondays and Wednesdays (Team A) or Tuesdays and Thursdays (Team B). The same student cannot be part of both teams at the same time.

Here is a quick description of the new program and classes:
- Little Champions I (3 to 6 years old): classes Mondays and Wednesdays from 4.30p to 5.20p (Team A) or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3.20p to 4.10p (Team B)
- Little Champions II (7 to 9 years old): classes Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.30p to 6.20 (Team A) or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4.10p to 5.00p (Team B)
- Juniors (10 to 13+ years old): classes only tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.00p to 5.50p.

If you would like to bring your kids on Tuesdays and Thursdays classes instead of Mondays and Wednesdays, please talk to Angy on the lobby.

In case you have any questions or suggestions please contact one of our Team Members or send us an e-mail at info@graciebarrasanclemente.com . We would love your feedback!

Warmest regards,
Prof. Flavio Almeida

GB San Clemente Uphill Challenge

GB San Clemente Students run uphill at Talega

Last Sunday, right after the Girls Rape Safe BJJ Class, our students headed to Talega for the GB San Clemente Uphill Challenge!!!! It was so much fun!!!! Each step uphill is a fight, specially at the end when we got really tired, but it was worth it. The view to all over our beautiful town and the San Onofre Park was the biggest reward we could ever ask.

Back to the school, we got lots of training at our competition class.

We will repeat the great training this upcoming Sunday. We’ll meet at 9am at Talega for one more Challenge uphill and go train at 11am.

We hope to see you all there!!!

Cheers!
