Master Carlos Gracie Jr is Coming Back to OC

Master Carlos Gracie Jr, is coming back to O.C. on February 11. He was in Brazil since December 2007 due to the birth of his son Kayan Gracie. Master Gracie is the founder of Gracie Barra and President of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. He is one of the most respected figures in BJJ today and has graduated more then 300 black belts in his teaching career. Among his students are big names like Master Renzo Gracie, Prof. Marcio Feitosa, Prof. Roger Gracie, Prof. Ricardo Almeida, Renato Babalu Sobral, and many others.

Master Carlos Gracie Jr. spends half of his time in Brazil, and half here in the United States. He is always traveling to oversee the tournaments and visit the Gracie Barra Schools worldwide. We are all very excited to have him back as all GB instructors and students in the region will be training with and learning from him.

Here is a cool picture from Master Carlos Gracie Jr. training with his nephew Igor Gracie at Renzo Gracie School in New York.

Our Photogallery is now updated

If you haven’t checked yet, take a look at the nice photo gallery we are building for the school’s website. The idea is to have a place where we can store and show the daily routine, facts and achievements of the school and the people that are part of it. We recently updated the photo gallery with great shots from our pre-opening class. To access it go to photo on the top menu of our home.

A Tale from GB San Clemente: our first class!!!

Monday night could be just one more normal day at the peaceful and quiette office complex where Gracie Barra San Clemente is located. But it was not. At the end of the afternoon, when everyone was leaving the building to go home after one more day of work, people interested ion this new Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School started to arrive. It was onlystill 4:.15pm when one of the new student’s showed up saying that he couldn’t wait for 5 o’clock. He was so excited to see the school that he came before the scheduled time to check it out.

Professor Flavio was getting ready for one of the most important days in his life. After 15 years studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he was getting ready to teach the first class aton his own school. We could all see and feel his excitement aboutfor what was happening.

At 5pm, time for the BJJ Fundamentals Class, we already had lots of students ready to train, learn, and have fun. People came from everywhere, driven by the curiosity and excitement about this new Gracie Barra school that is opening its doors in San Clemente.

The Class was awesome! People from of all different ages, genders, and backgrounds engaged ion an exciting, challenging, and inspirational training experience led by Professor Flavio Almeida, and two of his Black Belts teammates: Prof. Marco Joca and Prof. Frederico Blum. They learned about the oOverall strategy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while practicing very effective self-defense techniques.

Time went by really fast and when before we realizedknew it, it was already 7pm and the Advanced class was about to start. GB America students and new students interested in being part of Gracie Barra, filled up the mats. We lost the count but it was close to 50 people. Professor Flavio opened the class expressing his gratitude tofor the Gracie Barra Family and especially tofor Prof. Marcio Feitosa and Master Carlos Gracie Jr. for everything they have donedid for him.

The class was very technical and unique, as Prof. Flavio taught the inside trip take down and the Ezequiel Choke, two of Marcio’s favorites techniques when he was blue and purple belt. The event was closedended with a 30- minutes sparring session where all students trained in celebration offor this new school. We are all very happy and proud offor this great achievement. A special thanks goes to Kendy, Angy, Al, Dave, Pesh, Jordan, Vivi, Felipe, Richard, Fernando, Malu, Dan, Jade, and of course, to all the new students for this initial push to got the school in motion.

The GB family celebrates these great event and leaves here some pictures from moments that will stay in everyone’s memories for a long time. Enjoy it!
