Flavio Almeida
Professor Flavio Almeida is a 2nd degree black belt and has been studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Carlos Gracie Jr. for more then 15 years. His BJJ journey begins at the age of 13, when he decided to go with his brother – Ricardo Almeida - for a trial class at the original Gracie Barra School, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Prof. Almeida has had the privilege of training with, and learning from, some of the best of Master Carlos Gracie Jr. students, like Master Renzo Gracie, Prof. Ricardo Almeida, and Prof. Marcio Feitosa.
All of them played a key role on the development of his Jiu-Jitsu style.
Flavio's personal discipline and commitment to the integrity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are easily noted. His classes are remarkable due to the high level of attention, excitement, and discipline, as professor expects nothing but the best from each one of the students.
Prof. Almeida has a bacherelor degree in Economic Science and specialized in environmental economics. From 2003 to 2006, he worked for a renowned international non-governmental organization as a project manager for Climate Change and Education for Sustainable Development.
The pursuit of his dream of building a successful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, brought Professor Flavio Almeida to the United States in 2006.
After searching many different places, Professor fell in love with the City of San Clemente. With the support of Master Carlos Gracie Jr. and Prof. Marcio Feitosa, he decided that city would be the place he would build a Gracie Barra School and settle down with his family. The city’s peaceful and family atmosphere captured his heart as much as it reminds him of the place where he grew up in Brazil.
Professor’s unique blend of fighting, teaching, academic and business background are in service of Gracie Barra San Clemente, where he plays the role of Head Instructor and General Director. He also works on the Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Schools Association, helping Master Carlos Gracie Jr. to keep the quality of the GB schools worldwide.
Professor Almeida is still an active athlete and competes in most of the major Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournaments worldwide. During his competition career, he has accomplished many titles including 2 world championships, a Panamerican championship, a 2nd place at the ADCC – 2007 (World Submission Grappling Championship), American Nationals Championship, Multiple Brazilian Nationals and Rio de Janeiro State Championships.
